50 groups of students will meet on Opening Day with anywhere from 15 – 30 students in each group. Groups are determined by the last two digits of each student's ID number. For example, Group 1 will include students whose ID number ends in 00 or 01.

Each facilitation group will ideally consist of a faculty member, a staff/administrator and between one and three upper-class student volunteers to help manage the room. The discussion occurs from 1pm – 2:15pm on Opening Day.

FYE will email facilitators in August with details regarding pairings. Facilitators will be provided a zoom link to host the discussion groups at.
It is recommended that facilitators attend a summer discussion to talk with other facilitators about the book and gather ideas for leading a discussion. |

Each year, FYE conducts an assessment of the program that is used to improve the experience for students and provides feedback on how students are engaging with the selected book. Discussion group facilitators provide students with a short assessment tool at the end of their discussion.
This past year 481 evaluation forms were submitted (which is about half of what is normally received due to the fact that evaluations were done online instead of in-person.) |
